The BCCI elections which were scheduled to take place on October 22 will now take place a day later in the wake of the legislative assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra taking place on October 21. CoA released a statement directing the state associations to not re-amend their constitutions.

The much-awaited BCCI elections have been rescheduled and postponed by a day, and will now take place on October 23 in the wake of legislative assembly elections in the state of Maharashtra and Haryana. Both the States will be voting on October 21 in a single-phase election and to ensure that voter members from the two units are not inconvenienced, the Cricket Board poll has been postponed by a day, the Committee of Administrators said in a statement. The CoA has also extended the date of completion of elections for the member state associations to October 4.

“The BCCI elections are on track. It’s just because of the State polls, we have decided to reschedule by a day. So it will now be held on October 23 instead of October 22. Anything else that you read anywhere will be factually incorrect,” CoA chief Mr. Rai told the PTI.

Another CoA member Diana Edulji said while she is “against any delay in conducting the BCCI elections”, she understands that a day’s extension is due to State polls.

In the statement released by CoA, they also directed that the state associations should not re-amend the constitution that has been approved by the CoA. "The member State Associations and their respective electoral officers are directed not to re-amend their constitutions as already approved by the COA in light of the judgment dated 9th August 2018," the statement on Tuesday (September 24) read.

"The member State Associations are also directed to conduct the elections in accordance with the constitution approved by the COA in terms of the order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court dated 9th August, 2018 and the relaxation granted by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in its order dated 20th September, 2019, as explained in paragraph 1 above."

It further added, "The State Associations who have not brought their constitutions in line with the BCCI Constitution run the risk of their election results not being recognised."

The reforms are being implemented following the Supreme Court orders dated July 18, 2016, August 9, 2018 and September 20, 2019.
