The IPL team owners' meeting in Mumbai has sparked numerous discussions and debates, with several reports detailing new developments. According to the latest ESPNcricinfo report, the franchises have proposed a two-year ban on overseas players who withdraw from the league without a valid reason.

‌The teams reportedly highlighted instances from the past when players withdrew at the last moment, citing personal reasons. They noted that this disrupted the team’s strategy and compelled them to seek replacements from a shallower pool of international talent. The teams also suggested that the BCCI should ensure that overseas players play the league except for family or urgent commitments. They also informed the IPL council that overseas players should be mandated to register for the mega auction and not just participate in mini-auctions in hopes of securing large price tags.

As per the ESPNcricinfo report, all ten franchises agreed on these two points during their meeting with the IPL on Wednesday. The franchises understood the cause of a particular player's board pulling him out due to international commitment, or if the player suffered an injury, or had family commitments that rendered him incapable of joining the squad. They were willing to make these allowances as long as there was clarity at the time of the auction about the player's availability during the IPL edition.

Before each IPL season, several players have withdrawn after the auction, citing personal reasons. Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga, among others, have pulled out from IPL seasons in recent years often providing reasons that franchises find unconvincing. These withdrawals have not only disrupted the teams' plans but also raised questions about the dependability of certain overseas players.
