Australian great Shane Warne continued his series of naming the best XI from countries he has played against by selecting the greatest India Test XI. Sourav Ganguly was selected as the captain with Sachin Tendulkar occupying the fourth position in the batting order.

The greatest Indian Test XI according to Shane Warne will feature Virender Sehwag and Navjot Singh Sidhu as openers with the ‘Wall’ Rahul Dravid at No.3. Test cricket’s overall greatest run-scorer, Sachin Tendulkar will be at No.4 followed by skipper Sourav Ganguly in the fifth position in the batting order.

The No.6 position gave Warne some headaches with the leg-spinner having to choose between VVS Laxman and Mohammad Azharuddin. The Australian, went for a dual strategy, selecting both players and deciding to select the player based on the condition on the day of the match.

“The hardest position to select for me was the number 6 spot between my great friend VVS or Azzha, depending on the conditions who would actually play at number 6 & what country the game was played in, hence I named 12 & would choose the 12th man on the day !,” Warne said in his Facebook post.

Kapil Dev filled the all-rounder’s spot with India’s limited-overs captain MS Dhoni donning the wicket keeper’s gloves. The Australian went for the spin duo of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh with Javagal Srinath sharing the rest of the bowling duties.

"This was the hardest team to select as I played against a few legends at the end of their careers like Vengsarkar, Sanjay Manjreker, Ravi Shastri, Manoj Prabhakar as well as current players like Zaheer Khan too,” Warne wrote on his Facebook page.

Warne's Greatest India Test XI: Virender Sehwag, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin, Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath (VVS Laxman 12th).
