Following the demise of Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa, the BCCI has checked with the TNCA about the status of the 5th Test between India and England which is scheduled to be hosted at Chennai from December 16. In response, TNCA has informed the Board that they are ‘monitoring the situation’.

The uncertainty surrounding the State’s administration and possible political chaos has posed questions over the status of the final test of the 5-match series between England and India at Chennai. The state government has also declared a seven-day state mourning from Tuesday after Jayalalithaa, the Tamil Nadu chief minister, passed away at the age of 68, on Monday evening, after failing to recover from a cardiac arrest she had suffered on Sunday.

“Yes, the Board did check with us, but we have not received any information from the local authorities, so there is no change to the schedule. We are monitoring the situation and will plan accordingly,” TNCA secretary K. Viswanathan told The Hindu.

A Ranji Trophy match between Odisha and Jharkhand, which is scheduled to be starting from Wednesday at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul, may also get postponed. Both the teams are locked inside the Parson’s Court hotel in Dindigul, and the teams are unable to practice with the state government declaring an off for all the schools and colleges for the next three days.
