After having developed a good opening partnership in the limited-overs matches with Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan wants to emulate the success of the legendary opening pair of Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly and hopes to carry his new-found form into the Asia Cup T20 in Bangladesh and World T20 in India.

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata ahead of the Indian team’s departure to Bangladesh for the upcoming Asia Cup T20, Dhawan opened up on his partnership with Rohit.

"Me and Rohit have been opening for a long time. We understand each other very well, we know each other's nature very well. I know what he likes to do in the middle. We are quite comfortable. We both have a lot of strokes, so if he plays fast I can play the role of rotating the strike.

"The way Sachin and Sourav had a long career in opening, we can also have that in time. Maybe we can break more records. It's surely going to benefit both of us as well as the country," Dhawan said in an interaction with the media.

His opening partner, Rohit Sharma had also recently said that he is happy to be compared with the opening pair of Sachin and Sourav.

The left-hander, who enjoyed a good run in the T20 matches against Australia and Sri Lanka recently, also hoped to continue his good form into the Asia Cup and the World T20.

"I am enjoying that I am scoring runs at the moment. Looking forward to continue in the same way and do better in Asia Cup. I want to continue stretching that good form till the time I can.

It's a journey, getting more experience and mature with time. With time I am knowing my game better. In bad patches, I tried to stick to those things. I believe in my abilities," Dhawan said.
