Virat Kohli fined for showing dissent
Indian batsman Virat Kohli was fined thirty percent of his match fee on Sunday for showing dissent during the match against Pakistan on Saturday. Kohli made 49 runs off 51 balls to guide India to a 5 wicket win but displayed dissent at the umpire after he was given out LBW in the 15th over.
“The player was found to have breached Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”,” a media release from ICC said.
Kohli admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Jeff Crowe on Sunday.
“The incident happened in the 15th over of India’s innings when Kohli, after being given out leg before, displayed dissent by first showing his bat and then leaving the crease while looking back at the umpire and uttering some words that were contrary to the spirit of the game,” the media release said.
Replays after Kohli’s dismissal showed that the batsman had inside edged the delivery from Mohammad Sami to his pads. Although Kohli was dismissed for 49, India went on to register a convincing five-wicket victory against arch-rivals Pakistan.
