BCCI set to allow women cricketers to play in foreign leagues

The BCCI’s unwritten rule of not letting Indian players to play in foreign domestic leagues is set to be lifted, at least for the women’s cricketers. This move comes after the BCCI also decided to introduce central contracts for Indian women’s cricketers. ESPNCricinfo has reported that during a meeting of the BCCI’s women’s cricket committee on Wednesday it was decided that subject to their contracts being approved by the BCCI, India's women cricketers could now play in overseas leagues in Australia and England. This would clear the path for India's players to take part in tournaments such as the Women's Big Bash League in Australia and the Kia Women's Super League in England.

This is a huge step forward and will let Indian women cricketers be exposed to intense cricket matches. A lack of exposure towards that kind of matches seemingly hurt their performance in the recently concluded World T20. Though a tad bit late, it will certainly help the cricketers and the national team in the future.
