Ricky Ponting looks to take over as Australia's Chairman of selectors

Following a string of terrible results where the Australian cricket team lost the ODI series 0-5 and is 0-2 down in the three-match Test series against South Africa at home, Australia's chairman of selectors Rodney Marsh has resigned from his post. Following that, another selector Trevor Hohns has replaced Marsh as the chairman and former skipper Greg Chappell has taken up the role of the interim selector of the team. 

Speaking about his desire for the first time, Ponting, who led Australia to two World Cup victories, said to Australian Associated Press, “I’d consider it and have a think about it. I've said to Cricket Australia from the moment I've finished I'm happy to get involved somewhere and help out where I can.

"With that role, you're probably on the road for six or seven months of the year and I've done that for 20 years," the former Australian skipper said. 

The reports have also suggested that Ponting has already been in talks with Cricket Australia to coach the team for a three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka in February. 

Considered one of the greatest players of all-time, 'Punter', as he is known in cricketing circles, has 13378 runs from 168 Tests and a whopping 13704 runs from 375 One-day internationals for Australia. He also led the Baggy Greens to two world cup victories in 2003 and 2007. 

So, now it seems Punter would go on to replace his childhood Academy coach Rod Marsh, who had once termed him as the best teenage batsman he had ever seen, as the chairman of the selectors.
