Ricky Ponting : I`m there to help Australia if I can
Former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting has insisted that he is willing to help out the Australian team in any way possible. Ponting has been linked with taking up the role of Chairman of Selectors or National team coach recently with the Baggy Greens struggling to perform at home against South Africa.
Following a string of terrible results where the Australian cricket team lost the ODI series 0-5 and are 0-2 down in the three-match Test series against South Africa at home, Australia's chairman of selectors Rodney Marsh has resigned from his post. Following that, another selector Trevor Hohns has replaced Marsh as the chairman and former skipper Greg Chappell has taken up the role of the interim selector of the team. There are also question marks about the future of the coach Darren Lehmann.
Ricky Ponting, meanwhile, has been linked with both the role of a selector and the coach recently, and the 41-year-old is more than willing to do his part to restore Australia to their previous glory days.
"I haven`t received any calls yet, but that might happen. Cricket Australia knows that I`m there to help if I can - whether that`s in a full-time role or whatever it might be. It`s hard to sit back and watch the guys play as they have done in the last few weeks," Ponting told news.com.au.
"Guys like me and Warnie ... a lot of the guys that sit back and watch the team pretty closely, we`d love to be able to help out.”
Despite not being actively involved in Australian cricket for a long time, Ponting has claimed that he has “a pretty good idea of what’s going on”.
"I`m definitely not an expert on Australian cricket, because I haven`t played for the last three or four years, but I`m commentating on the Big Bash and I`ve got a lot of mates that are coaching state sides and that sort of thing, so I`ve got a pretty good idea of what`s going on in the state system," he said.
"It`d just be nice to be involved," he added.
