PCB lauds ICC’s decision after India refuse to play
The PCB has lauded ICC Technical Committee’s decision to award six championship points to its national women's team after India refused to play a bilateral series in UAE. PCB has also asked the sport’s governing body to force the Indian cricket board to fulfill its bilateral obligations.
India forfeited the ICC Women's Championship points to Pakistan after not playing their sixth round games slated between Aug 1 and Oct 31 owing to the current political stand-off between the Asian neighbours, that saw them fail to gain a direct qualification to the Women’s World Cup in England in June next year.
“It is unfortunate that despite our sincere efforts we have not been able to play with India in the ICC Women’s Championship. The ultimate loss of Pakistan-India series is to cricket,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan told PTI news agency.
“The PCB thereafter involved ICC in this matter and finally requested the matter be referred to Technical Committee for decision of award of points,” he added.
PCB has also asked the ICC to grant them a special fund as a compensation for India’s refusal to play them in a bilateral series for the last nine years in the men’s section.
“India despite signing a MOU with us in the ICC to resume playing bilateral series from 2015 has been avoiding doing this on one pretext or the other and it has caused us severe losses,” Khan said.
