ICC to convince BCCI to adopt DRS in England Test series
The International Cricket Council will try to convince the Indian cricket board to soften its stand against the Decision Review System (DRS) and adopt it during the upcoming five-Test series against England starting on Nov 9.
ICC general manager Geoff Allardice, along with a representative from HawkEye, the ball-tracking technology company, will travel to India to discuss the usage of DRS during the Tests, British newspaper Daily Mail reported.
The BCCI has been vehemently against the use of DRS in Test matches since the 2008 Sri Lanka tour, citing that the technology wasn’t foolproof.
Former Test skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also sceptical about DRS. However, current Test skipper Virat Kohli appears open to the use of DRS in Test matches. “We will certainly look to probably introduce it (DRS) in future,” he said during the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand.
“These are things we have had meetings on. Because there were some areas that we felt can be debated. Especially ball-tracking and Hawk Eye. But, all in all...I personally feel these things can be discussed and debated on.”
