Australia just broke the T20I record for highest score!

After wrapping up the ODI series 4-1 against Sri Lanka, Australia appear to be on an extended revenge mode for their Test-series humiliation at the hands of the Islanders.

The first T20 match betwen the two began in unexpected fashion - Glenn Maxwell who bats lower down came in to open the innings. He also faced the first ball, and the first over showed no signs of things to come. Only three runs were scored off it as Senanayake gave a great start to the Sri Lankans. 11 came off the next, and things still appeared fine by T20 standards. The floodgates opened in the third over - Senanayake had been replaced by Rajitha, for no reason at the end, and David Warner smacked him for four consecutive fours.

The bowler was brought back again for the 5th over, but it appeared he would go the same route as Maxwell took to him with a six and a four off the first two balls. But the bowler removed David Warner, who had looked the dangerous of the two until then. Maxwell was on 11 off 10 balls until the over had begun!

But the batsman went berserk from there on bringing up his fifty in 27 balls. Khawaja, who had joined him at the crease also made a quickfire start to his innings, but fell to Pathirana in the 14th over.

Glenn Maxwell then ran riot through the Sri Lankan bowling line-up taking them apart to reach his century off 48 balls. Travis Head also ably supported him as the duo put up a 100-run partnership by the end including a 17th over when Maxwell hammered Senanayake for 27 runs with three sixes and a four. Head then did the honors with a final assault in the 20th over scoring 16 runs that saw the Aussies surpass the highest-ever T20 International score in an innings.
