A Redditor has made an intriguing comparison chart of cricketers’ salaries, without adding the earnings from endorsements, across the nations. It appears that the Indian cricketers earn 91 times of the national income – the highest among the cricketing nations.

Redditor Runrage wrote, “I have chosen the retainer fee component of the central contract as the headline figure. In addition to this, players generally earn appearance fee for each match that the play. Some contracts (such as India's) have performance related bonuses too.”

Notes

  • The retainer fee is the value of the highest contract of each country excluding captain bonuses.
  • England and Australia pay the same retainer fee for all the contracted players except the captain.

  • India has three contracts: Grade A, B, and C. Only 4-5 players are awarded Grade A contracts each year.

  • New Zealand players' contracts are determined by the individual's performance over the previous year. Obviously, Williamson has the highest contract.

Observations:

  • English players are the best paid in absolute terms.

  • Australia is the richest major cricketing nation.

  • New Zealand players earn only 4 times their national income, the least among the major cricketing nations.

  • Indian players earn a whopping 91 times their national income: the rock stars of cricket.
