Watch: India finally get the review right in the Australia series

The BCCI was a strong adversary for the use of DRS in cricket after they found flaws in the Hawk-eye technology in the series against Sri Lanka way back in 2008. After a lot of changes made to the technology, the BCCI finally decided to give the new system a try in the series against England. But, apart from the first Test against England at Rajkot, where India managed to get the better of the visitors in the use of DRS, it has largely been a forgettable one for the Indians, mostly because of some of the ridiculous reviews made by the players.

In last seven Tests, 63% of Kohli’s reviews in the field haven’t even come close for a doubt. Nineteen of his 31 LBW reviews have failed to change an umpire's call. But in the city of Dhoni, Kohli, pretty much like his former skipper, used the DRS with aplomb to send Shaun Marsh packing.  

In the 25th over of the match, Ashwin’s delivery took the inside edge of the bat and after hitting the pad was duly collected by Cheteshwar Pujara at the short-leg region. But the umpire at the business end didn't spot the edge as he ruled in the batsman's favour. The Indians, however, were confident to go upstairs and it was proved to be nothing like the confidence that they had shown during the previous embarrassing review calls.

Third umpire Nigel Llong checked the replay and spotted a huge spike on the UltraEdge and in his conversation with the on-field umpire, he said, “Ian, I have got a conclusive spike, that the ball has touched the inside edge of the bat."

Marsh departed, scoring only two runs, thus putting a blip in India’s unsuccessful DRS calls.
