Bangladesh bowlers imposed with 10-year bans for their protest against Umpires

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has handed out 10-years ban to two Bangladeshi bowlers who featured in the Dhaka Second Division cricket league. The bowlers were apparently miffed with the poor umpiring decisions and staged their protests by giving away an enormous amount of extras while bowling.

Sujon Mahmud who plays with the Lalmatia Club gave away 92 runs in four legitimate deliveries owing to the 15 no-balls and 13 wides he bowled which also raced towards the fence while playing against the Axiom Cricketers last month.

Fear Fighters Sporting Club's Tasnim Hasan conceded 69-runs in 7 deliveries in a similar protest in an earlier match.

This incident has dented the reputation of Bangladesh cricket and we have taken a stern step because this was important for us," Bangladesh Cricket Board director Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying by local newspaper the Daily Star. 

The bowler's clubs have also been banned from the tournament for an indefinite time period. The Bangladesh Cricket Board also issued five years ban to the captain, managers and the coaches of the respective clubs.

"They willingly tarnished the image of Bangladesh cricket," Sheikh Sohel the BCB's disciplinary committee chief said.

"A bowler won't be able to do such a thing without the order of their team management. From the whole investigation we realised that it was done to hurt Bangladesh cricket."
