Wayne Parnell was taken to a hospital, midway through a match, after the South African 'chest tightness and an abnormally fast pulse' yesterday. The 27-year-old also has a history of heart illness and had to leave the field of play while playing against India A in 2013 as well.

Parnell was having a good game, for Kent against Somerset, having scored a 5-ball 11 and had garnered figures of 1/25 when he was forced to leave the field, according to the Times, after experiencing chest tightness and an abnormally fast pulse. The pacer was immediately rushed to the hospital where tests were conducted on his heart. A Kent spokesman, however, confirmed that the 27-year-old was only taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"Wayne left the field during Tuesday's match at Taunton, as he was feeling unwell. He wanted to return to the field after examination by the club's medical staff but did not as a precaution. In consultation with doctors at Cricket South Africa, Wayne will receive further check-ups," SuperSport reported the Kent spokesperson saying.

In 2013, while playing against India A, Parnell ended up spending two nights in the hospital where an irregular heartbeat was detected.

Parnell was in contention for a place in South Africa's squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in the UK, but the selectors will wait to see if his fitness allows him to to take part in the eight team tournament starting next month.
