Rain threat looms large over second India-Australia T20I

After India had opted to field in the first T20I, skipper Virat Kohli had mentioned that the fluctuating weather had forced him to take the calculated risk and now it seems like toss could be a deciding factor in the Guwahati T20I yet again.

As per AccuWeather, Guwahati is likely to experience scattered thundershowers on Tuesday, which could be a hindrance for the game scheduled to start at 7 pm. Though the showers are expected to arrive in the afternoon clearing the sky by the time the game begins, no side will be to take a risk of Duckworth Lewis method.

India had to chase a revised target of 48 runs from six overs after Australia’s poor innings of 118 was cut short by rain in the 19 over. Kohli had expressed his confusion with the D/L method, who had thought India have to chase something in the region of 40 after putting a solid bowling performance.  

The newly introduced rules in T20 games were also a source of controversy with Aaron Finch and Shikhar Dhawan revealing that they were oblivious to it. David Warner could use only Nathan Coulter-Nile twice in the six over second innings with the rest getting one over each.

A report on Skymet weather stated, “While the city of Guwahati will witness some isolated showers during the afternoon hours, the night time will remain pleasant and rain free. Spectators will be able to enjoy the show without weather gods providing any hindrance.”

A positive in all would be the effective drainage system of Barsapara stadium, which is being touted as one of the best in the country. “We only cover the wicket in case it rains. But that's enough, as the high sand content facilitates drainage in no time,” said pitch curator Mukut Kalita.

A report in The Assam Sentinel stated that all 27,000 tickets for the match were sold out, and rains over the last couple of days haven't dampened their enthusiasm. The Indian team, however, were refrained from their practice session once again in Guwahati as they made the most of it by playing football.
