Two Indian spectators arrested by Sri Lanka Cricket, suspected of match-fixing during domestic T20 game

The officials have mentioned that the two suspected men were constantly using their phones for making calls and displayed some other suspicious behaviour during the game between Galle and Dambulla at Pallekele in the island's central hills.

“We saw suspicious behaviour of the two Indians and ACU (anti-corruption unit) officials handed them over to the police for further investigations,” a Sri Lanka Cricket official said.

Just a day before the arrest, Sri Lanka Cricket had issued an alert concerning match-fixing. The action was taken as a group of spectators, suspected of match-fixing, were told to leave the premises.

The domestic tournament that going on in Sri Lanka constitutes Lankan players solely as they made an unsuccessful attempt of luring foreign cricketers towards the tournament. Further, the tournament has been a buzzing ground for the match-fixers and Sri Lanka Cricket is forced to locate officials at the venues and the hotels in order to check the act.

As the Al Jazeera documentary jeopardized the reputation of Sri Lanka Cricket, the board has decided to introduce stricter laws and are contemplating the formation of a special Police unit, who will deal with the whole issue of match-fixing.
