Syed Kirmani hails Ravichandran Ashwin’s dedication towards the game

While presenting the “Icon of Chennai” to Ravichandran Ashwin, former India wicket-keeper Syed Kirmani has praised the star off-spinner for his achievements and dedication to the game. Kirmani has also heaped praise on the World No.5 Test bowler for always conducting himself with grace and dignity.

Ashwin’s different types of variations to go with a sharp brain transformed him into a quintessential modern-day spinner and that resulted in him ruling the roost in international cricket in the last two years. Alongside his partner Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin was the chief architect in India’s dominant home season and translated that to overseas conditions by being the team’s best bowler in the Centurion Test against South Africa. While celebrating his success and achievements in a Rotary Club function in Chennai, Kirmani praised Ashwin and called him “a role model” for today’s youngsters.

“I have no words to express the achievements which Ravichandran Ashwin has done. My heartiest congratulations to the would-be legend in the making,” Kirmani said at a function in Chennai to present the ‘Icon of Chennai’ award to Ashwin, reported PTI. 

Ashwin has always been a gentleman on and off the field and has collected praise for the grace with which he conducted himself in the presence of the former cricketers. During the 2016-17 BCCI awards where the off-spinner elegantly praised Farokh Engineer on the stage and how beautifully he managed to gel well with the master spinners of the yore - Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Rajinder Goel, and Padmakar Shivalkar. Kirmani, a flashy cricketer during his time, stated that Ashwin is the pride of Tamil Nadu and also a role model for the young generation.

“Ashwin is the pride of Tamil Nadu and the country. He is a great role model to the youngsters of today, the millennials of today. He is such a gentleman cricketer, among all the other gentleman cricketers, he excels. I deem it an honour to honour Ashwin,” Kirmani added.
