Sachin Tendulkar already held all the records worth owning in cricket before he set Gwalior alight by becoming the first player to score an ODI double century. In an absolute carnage, the South African bowlers were left scratching their heads as Tendulkar scored almost half the runs in India’s 401.

The visitors had already managed to secure a draw in the two-match Test series and had lost the first ODI by the narrowest of margins – 1 run. As such there was a lot riding on the match. However, not even the most ardent of Indian fans would have expected to witness what they saw in the first innings as Tendulkar just showed the entire cricketing world how great he was.

“I don't know how to react to this. I would like to dedicate this to the people of India who have always stood behind me for these 20 years amid the ups and downs. I was striking the ball and timing the ball well, it was coming on to the bat nicely. Yusuf came and changed the momentum and MS really struck the ball well; it was due to their big hitting that we were able to put up such a big score. It was only when I got closer to the score that I realised that I had an opportunity and I could take the singles to give MS the strike,” Tendulkar had said after the match, when handed the man of the match award.

On the eighth anniversary of the historic innings, test yourself to see how well you remember one of the most astonishing innings ever!!
