Niranjan Shah criticises BCCI’s new guidelines for staging T20 tournaments

The BCCI yesterday came out with a 10-point advisory that stated specific rules and guidelines for staging domestic T20 tournaments which were sent out to state units all across the country. It addressed various aspects of hosting such tournaments that also included anti-corruption guidelines.

But former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah criticised some of the aspects of the new guidelines that the Indian body has included in their updated agenda. Shah was of the opinion that the domestic players needed to get more game time in competitions like these in order to improve their game.

"The general body had gone into the issue of the state associations-organized T20 tournaments and had deliberated on the issue in detail and had laid down guidelines for the organisation of such tournaments with a specific focus on anti-corruption protocols and to provide an opportunity to those cricketers who neither play for the country nor do they play in the IPL," said Shah, reported TOI.

Shah, the current secretary of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, revealed that the domestic cricketers would benefit from such competitions and the restrictions being imposed on them would only hamper their development.

"Not only should such tournaments be organized and hosted by state associations under the guidelines laid down be welcomed but the creation of opportunities for the domestic cricketers must be celebrated, especially in the background of the COA-created wide gulf between the international cricketers and domestic cricketers in terms of their earnings. These tournaments can be immensely beneficial to these cricketers. The game will only benefit with greater exposure to these cricketers and the restrictions put on the limit of participation ensures that the IPL is not hampered in any way," he added.
