Ajit Agarkar became the first casualty of the Lodha reforms act as the MCA made Agarkar choose between Chief of Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) and the chairman of the senior selection committee. As per the Lodha reforms, no one is allowed to head two different posts in the association.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) have been behind the BCCI to make sure they follow all the recommendations of the Supreme Court-mandated Lodha reforms. The tussle for power between the two bodies has caused havoc in the Indian cricketing scene and it remained to be seen as to who will ultimately prevail.

But the Mumbai Cricket Association decided to implement one of the recommendations of the Lodha reforms act as it asked former Indian pacer - Ajit Agarkar to pick between the post of Chief of Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) and chairman of the senior selection committee. MCA’s committee of administrators’ Justice Hemant Gokhale and Justice VM Kanade asked Agarkar to make a decision on the same on Friday evening.

MCA has had a CIC for nearly a decade, which included former cricketers and office bearers of the MCA weigh in on cricketing decisions. The CIC looks after appointments of coaches, trainers, physio, and selectors at various age groups.

Agarkar, who has played more than 200 international games for India across all three formats, was heading the CIC and was chairman of the senior selection committee for the past one year. The COA informed Agarkar that as per the Supreme Court order, he can’t chair two posts at a time.

Sources in the MCA informed that Agarkar chose to continue as chairman of selection committee and gave up the CIC’s post. The CIC will now consist of just two members, former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former Mumbai captain Amol Muzumdar. However, Wadekar has not attended any the CIC’s meeting till date.

The COA has informed MCA joint secretary Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar to add three more former cricketers’ name in the CIC whose first major task would be to find a suitable candidate for the most crucial Ranji Trophy coach’s job after Sameer Dighe resigned from his post.
