ICC Test Rankings | Bangladesh overtake Windies as India stay top
Despite their 2-1 loss in the Test series in South Africa and the Proteas’ 3-1 win over Australia, it is still India who lead the Test rankings. With the results from before the last two years not being taken into account anymore, India extended their lead from four points to a commanding 13 points.
Riding on a home season where they suffered just one loss in 16 Test, India (125) built up a commanding lead over South Africa (112) which meant that even though the Proteas beat both India and Australia, who are in third place, they could not overthrow the Indians in the standings. However, it was not just the recent performances that helped India’s cause. With the 2015 results being removed from the calculations and the following two seasons weighing in at just 50%, India, who had lost 2-0 and 3-1 to Australia and England respectively back then, have extended their lead from four points to 13.
This also meant that Australia have added four points to their tally to go up to 106, which resulted in the Kiwis replacing them at the No.4 spot. However, it did not have an impact on the prize money since New Zealand had already pocketed their $200,000 at the cut-off date of April 3.
Another major change in the standings saw Bangladesh overtake the Windies after winning three of their 18 Tests to land at the eighth spot. Even though the Tigers have lost 10 matches that number is dwarfed by the Windies’ total of 18 losses in 28 Tests.
Elsewhere, England (5) gained a point while Sri Lanka and Pakistan lost one and two points respectively to land at the sixth and seventh position respectively.
