Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam has expressed his desire to reduce the burden on the existing selection committee by increasing their size from 3 to 5 members. In accordance with this, the AC has recommended a selection criteria for the senior, junior and women selection committees respectively.

Gopal Subramaniam has been assisting the Supreme Court as an Amicus Curie to precede over the petition filed by the Indian Cricket board (BCCI) on amendments in the draft as per the recommendations of Justice RM Lodha. The Amicus Curiae has suggested to the Supreme Court that the Committee of Administrators (CoA) must be urged to increase the composition of the selection committees (senior men, junior and women) from three to five members in order to relieve the present selection committees of their burden.

"Until the elections to BCCI takes place, the CoA may be empowered to have a consultation with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising reputed former international cricketers, and constitute a Committee of Selectors. This is imminently necessary to relieve the burden on the existing Committee of Selectors," Gopal Subramaniam said, reported The Hindu.

The criteria as laid forward by Subramaniam for the senior men’s selection committee is, "(1) 7 Test Matches; or (b) 30 First Class matches or (C) 10 One-Day Internationals (50 overs) and a minimum of 20 First Class matches. Also, 'Every member of the men's Selection Committee should have retired (from the game at least 5 years previously and that the seniormost among the members shall be appointed as the Chairperson,'" he said, emphasizing on this statement. This committee will choose the Indian teams for Tests, ODIs, Twenty20 and other formats and it shall report to the Apex council after evaluating all the team performances.

For the Junior and women’s selection committee, Gopal Subramaniam has recommended the composition of the selection committee to be increased from three to five. The criteria for the junior selection committee is a minimum of 25 First Class matches and for the women’s selection committee is the representation of the national team. A common criteria is that the member should have retired from the game five years previously.
