BCCI's decision to forbid wards of Railway employees from playing challenged in High Court
Following BCCI's refusal to let wards of Railway employees from playing in Railways' 'under-19’ and 'under-23’ categories, many have challenged the move in Delhi High Court on Tuesday. A plea started by ten of the wards stated that they have been allowed to play for railways, since 1980.
BCCI has made it known that only the permanent employees of the railways would be allowed to play from their side. The plea was heard by Justice Vibhu Bakhru and he has asked the junior players to give a representation to the BCCI. Advocate Aditya Kumar Choudhary, through whom the petition has been filed, seeked a way to legally reject the May 3 letter.
BCCI has sent the aforementioned letter to the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB), informing them about the decision taken by the technical committee of BCCI at the meeting held on April 16, which was further given a consent by the Supreme Court-appointed CoA.
BCCI had recommended RSPB to allow only permanent players to partake in tournaments. The plea has moved in order to devise a way through which the wards of the railway employees would be allowed to play for the railways. The BCCI, the RSPB and the Ministry of Railways, have been made parties to the petition.
“The railway teams have been playing in different BCCI tournaments for more than 30 years and have consistently played well and contributed not only to Indian cricket but to world cricket as well by producing excellent players in the likes of Sanjay Bangar, Murali Kartik, Karn Sharma, JP Yadav and Harvinder Singh," the petition said.
“....the schedule for the BCCI domestic season has been released and the season is going to start from September 19, there is an urgent need to take action against these steps of the BCCI and the RSPB, otherwise thousands of promising careers will be ruined in the blink of an eye," it added.
