WI vs IND | India Team manager left with an official reproof after behaviour mess up in Caribbean embassy
India team's administrative manager Sunil Subramaniam has been let off with an official warning by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) over misconduct with Indian diplomats in the Caribbean. Earlier, he was asked to come back to India immediately but now he has been let off with a warning.
After the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of administrators (CoA) found Subramaniam guilty of misconduct, he was called back from the tour immediately to give his explanation for his behaviour. However, late on Wednesday, it was decided that Subramaniam will stay back till the end of the tour. India have won the LOI series and now they'll face the Windies in a two-match Test clash, starting August 22 in Antigua.
The government had asked the Indian team to shoot a video to promote its 'Water Conservation' initiative. However, when the consulates from the High Commission in Guyana and T&T contacted Subramaniam, he denied obedience and even asked them 'not to flood him with messages' as he only reported to the BCCI CEO.
Following the incident, Subramanium has offered an unconditional apology to the diplomats in the Indian High Commissions in Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) for his 'rude' behavior and for becoming an obstacle in carrying out a project directed by the Government of India.
"Subramaniam tendered an unconditional apology to both the High Commissions and admitted to his poor behavior and claimed that it was inadvertent. He also mentioned that he had eventually got the shoot done by August 13. He wouldn't have been called for an explanation immediately because the process to select the next head coach of the Indian team will be underway. That's why it was decided he may be allowed to continue," a top BCCI official told TOI on Wednesday.
The Indian team manager got the backing of the coaching staff who pleaded on his behalf and attested that 'it seemed to be an honest mistake'. Currently, Subramaniam is on a 45-day extension after the World Cup and will only hold office until BCCI find the team's new administrative manager, a post for which the board had earlier posted an ad.
