BCCI offer clarification on nine-nine eligibility criteria ahead of general body elections

As per the clarification, if someone has completed nine years in the state association, then they can contest for a post in the BCCI general body, provided the nine-year term has a cooling-off period of three years. This period can be after holding the post of an office-bearer for two consecutive terms either in the Association or in the BCCI, or a combination of both.

As per a Supreme Court order on August 9 last year, the cooling-off period for BCCI officials was supposed to be in effect after two consecutive terms in office. Basically, a person who has served nine years or more shall not be disqualified to be a representative of the member association to the BCCI and to contest the election for the post of an officer-bearer or Councillor or member of the Governing Council in the BCCI.

The clarification in itself would be a major reprieve for many members of the BCCI who had filed Interim Applications (IA) contesting the same clauses in the constitution.

The CoA has set October 22 as the date to hold the BCCI elections to appoint the general body. Once the state elections are held, the BCCI’s chief electoral officer is expected to ask each association to submit the name of the representatives for the Annual General Meeting and the elections.
