AUS vs PAK | Hate to see Steve Smith moving fielders around, reveals Ian Chappell

Australia completely decimated Pakistan in the two-match Test series as they handed them back to back innings defeat. The final Test of the series was an under lights affair as an all-round performance sealed the deal for the home side. David Warner’s triple ton and Mitchell Starc’s six-for in the first innings along with Nathan Lyon’s fifer in the second were the highlights of the encounter.

While everyone was busy praising the lads, former Australia skipper Ian Chappell has come forward to voice his disappointment over an issue which was overseen by many. Chappell pointed out that Steven Smith was ordering troops on the field as he changed the field instead of the skipper Tim Paine, which is something he doesn’t approve at all.

"I tell you what I don't like to see, Steve Smith is moving a few fieldsmen around,” India Today quoted Chappell as saying.

"He did have a chat with Tim Paine, trying to talk Tim Paine into moving a fielder on the off-side, but I'm not sure Tim Paine moved him as far as Steve Smith wanted. Steve Smith started moving him, I hate to see that," he added.

Chappell termed Smith’s action as “white-anting” skipper Paine. White-anting is an Australian term which refers to undermining a person or group from within.

"England used to do it a bit, blokes other than the captain and I always felt it was white-anting the captain," he concluded.

Smith, the backbone of Australia’s batting order, lead the team until he relinquished it following the infamous sandpaper gate, more than a year. As a punishment for the ball-tampering scandal, Smith is barred from taking up positions of responsibility in the Australian side in any format of the game.
