As per a TOI report, the BCCI has made it clear to the ICC that it lacks trust on the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The BCCI officials present at the ICC chief executive meeting made the issue clear by citing the mistakes by NADA and asked the world body to name a different testing agency.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is constantly putting pressure on the ICC to resolve the issue between India and NADA. The pressure on ICC is to bring the Indian cricket board under the purview of the NADA or else WADA will derecognise ICC. Meanwhile, after ICC informed BCCI about the deadline, the Indian board has informed ICC its lack of trust on NADA citing recent mistakes by the agency in India.

“After ICC informed BCCI that they were approaching the deadline set by WADA on the issue, BCCI apprised ICC of the recent goof-ups under NADA’s supervision. BCCI is wary of handing over its athletes to NADA. The board is firm on its stand that NADA is not efficient enough,” a top BCCI official close to the development told TOI.

“Indian players get tested by national agencies while on tour and they have always come clean. The board is also ready to comply with all the regulations of the WADA but is not ready to get its players tested by NADA. WADA can suggest other testing centres for the BCCI,” the official informed while adding: “We were told that it’s difficult for WADA to recommend a private firm at the moment but they will take our concerns into consideration. Anyway, BCCI can’t change its policy till board elections happen and the apex council is formed as per the Supreme Court-approved new constitution.”

ICC had released a statement on Saturday which read, “The ICC board were updated on WADA’s concerns in relation to the domestic anti-doping programme in India. The board unanimously acknowledged its desire to remain WADA compliant and committed to working in partnership with the BCCI, WADA and the India NADA to resolve the outstanding issues as a matter of urgency.”

The BCCI had earlier stated that as it is not a national sports federation, it is not bound to come under NADA.
