My aim is to transform India into a sports-playing nation, says Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar is of the opinion that India is a sports-loving nation but not a sports-playing nation and he wants to transform India into a sports-playing one. The cricket legend also said that there is a lot that needs to improve in India as far as fitness and health is concerned.
With the start of various sporting leagues in India and rise in viewership of those leagues, it has ensured the growth in popularity of many sports in India. But, when it comes to playing a particular sport, the Indians are behind many other countries and Tendulkar has underlined this fact at a function in Goa. Tendulkar has said that his aim is to make India a sports-playing nation and now it is only a sports-loving one.
"On number of occasions I have mentioned that India is a sports-loving nation but not a sports-playing nation. That is why my aim is to transform India into a sports-playing nation," Tendulkar told reporters during the function, reported PTI.
"Parents are open-minded now. You have so many celebrated chefs and professional dancers. India is slowly, slowly changing. Today the choice is not just confined to whether you want to be a doctor or an engineer.”
The cricket legend also spoke about the scope of improvement in the health sector in India. He also gave a message to all Indians regarding health and fitness at the end of the function.
"I know we all like to feel fit. But the statistics, the numbers, do not say so. There is plenty of room for improvement. That is the message I want to give to everyone," said Tendulkar.
