Mohammed Shami has been charged under IPC 498A and 354A by the Kolkata police for dowry harassment and sexual harassment respectively. The Bengal-based fast bowler was part of the Indian team that played against Australia in the recently concluded five-match ODI series loss on home soil.

Things have taken a turn for the worse for India pacer Mohammed Shami has been charged under IPC 498A and 354A for dowry harassment and sexual harassment respectively. As per a report by ANI, the Bengal-based pacer has been charged by Kolkata Police as they submitted the documents before the Alipore police court.

The ICC World Cup 2019 is just around the corner and the chargesheet comes as a major blow for the Indian team member. Shami was a part of India's ODI squad which lost 2-3 against Australia in the last assignment before the international piece. Whether or not this will impact his selection in the World Cup squad remains to be seen but he had been suspended by the BCCI when the allegations first came to light last year. However, the pacer was cleared by the BCCI then and was even selected for an annual contract.

In January this year, Shami became the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in the One-day format during the first match against New Zealand at McLean Park in Napier. He got to the landmark in his 56th ODI while Pathan had done it in 59 matches. The Delhi Capitals bowler had a rather below-par outing in the home series loss to Australia as he picked up five wickets from four matches.
