In his recently-launched autobiography “Game Changer”, Shahid Afridi has revealed that he was actually born in the year 1975 and the authorities had stated his age wrong. As per records, Afridi is 39 year and 62 day-old now and was born on March 1, 1980 in Khyber agency of Pakistan.

Shahid Afridi took the world cricket by storm by making his debut as a 16-year-old kid back in 1996 when he first played a game for the Pakistani senior national cricket team in Nairobi. It was a quadrangular tournament played in Kenya which also involved the hosts, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Although Afridi didn’t get a chance to bat in his debut game against Kenya, he was promoted up to bat at No. 3 in the next match against Sri Lanka.

That is when the entire world took note of the young Afridi who struck a brilliant 37-ball 100 to break the world record of the fastest century in ODI cricket by Sanath Jayasuriya right in front of the Sri Lankan. Cricket experts and pundits all around the world were pretty impressed with the big-hitting capabilities of a 16-year-old, however, Afridi has said it clearly in his book “Game Changer” that he was not a 16-year-old boy then but was 19 when he made his ODI debut for Pakistan.

"Also, for the record, I was just nineteen, and not sixteen like they claim. I was born in 1975. So, yes, the authorities stated my age incorrectly," the autobiography of the former Pakistani skipper read.

So, after Afridi has revealed his real age, it is certain that he is now 44-year-old and still active in domestic cricket. He played in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans and picked up 10 wickets this season.
