Four persons arrested for betting on India v Bangladesh Pink Test
Four people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in cricket betting related to the ongoing pink Test between India and Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. A senior police officer under the Jorabagan police station confirmed the news of the arrests which were made on Friday evening.
The Jorabagan police station, who was supplied with credible information, took immediate action against the culprits. Three of the four persons were arrested from Brindaban Basak Street in Kolkata on Friday evening for running a racket using a cricket betting app via their mobile phones. The report of the illegal activities in relation to the historical pink Test was confirmed to IANS by the city police’s Joint Commissioner of Crime Murlidhar Sharma.
The trio — identified as Kundan Singh (aged 22), Mukesh Mali (aged 32), and Sanjoy Singh (aged 42) — revealed the identity of their accomplice, the fourth man in the group, in their statement after being grilled in the interrogation room. Following their statement, 22-year-old Md. Sarjil Hossain — the accomplice — was arrested from the New Market area.
Sharma further revealed that a total of four mobile phones, two sets of computers, cash worth Rs. 2.05 lakhs and a notebook were seized from the accused.
