IND vs BAN | First session of D/N Test similar to second session of regular Test, shared Virat Kohli
Skipper Virat Kohli revealed that the second session of a regular Test match should be treated like the morning session of a normal Test match. Kohli also went on to share how the strategies change when one tries to adapt to the new format as he shared that pink ball seamed throughout the match.
While many considered the historic maiden D/N Test match will be a tough ask for the batters, India Test skipper Virat Kohli proved the notion wrong as he went on to score a ton in his very first pink ball innings. Having tamed the pink cherry with distinction, Kohli shared that it's much easier to play the new format when one is able to build a parallel with the conventional matches.
Kohli went on to share that the first session of the under lights affair is much like the second session of a day Test match while the second session is similar to that of the morning session.
"When it starts getting darker, the ball starts to swing and seam. So in the first session, you invariably play like from lunch to tea in a normal-time Test. The second session would be like the morning session and the last one would be like the evening," Kohli revealed, according to TOI.
The skipper further went on dwell into the change in strategies as well as the difficulties one can face during the transition phase from daylight to the floodlights.
"The planning changes, so does the declaration strategy and timing. As a batsman, your setup changes. Even if you are set and batting well, you can be in trouble as soon as it gets dark and lights come on," the skipper explained.
Kohli also acknowledged that he was lucky having come to bat while the light were already on as he went to smash 136 runs during his first innings against the pink ball.
"I went in when lights were on, so I didn't have to go through that transition, but that will be another challenge in future," he said. He did admit that the afternoon session was relatively easy.
On the personal front, it was a different experience for Kohli. He added that the crowd added electrifying energy to the atmosphere giving it the feels of a limited overs game.
"When I walked out, it felt like an IPL game atmosphere so you think 'let's smash the first ball'. But you have to remind yourself that you have to play compact, also because the ball was coming faster off the pitch.
"Analysing the pink ball's behavour, the skipper said it seamed a lot under lights. "It swung in the first hour of second session but seamed throughout evening till the end of day's play."
