Report | IPL 2020 auction scheduled for December

As per a report that has emerged in the Mumbai Mirror and has been reported by Times Now, the annual IPL auction will be held in the last month of 2019, to help teams consolidate their squad ahead of April when the tournament is most probably scheduled to start. Negotiations between some teams are already underway to prepare for the 13th edition of the cash-rich league.

Considering last year’s auction was a major one that saw eight teams buy 60 players worth a combined Rs 106.80 cr, the one to be held this time around will be on a much smaller scale. The player’s salary-cap is likely to be incremented by three crore rupees, which will see the limit of expenditure by teams set at Rs 86 cr.

The auctions sees teams try to strengthen their squad based on the experiences of the previous season and the availability of their current players ahead of the new season. Ahead of the auction, a deadline is set by the organizers by which the teams can release the players they don’t want in their team to empty the squad slots and make room for the salary of incoming players. These cricketers are also then added to the list of those who will be auctioned.
