MCA to conduct elections on deadline set by BCCI
The Mumbai Cricket Association has announced that it will be conducting polls on the fourth of October as per the reformed BCCI constitution and hence align itself with CoA’s directive. The results will be declared on the day of the election itself with D.N. Chaudhari presiding over the process.
After having denied to conform with the reformed BCCI constitution for long now, the Mumbai Cricket Association has finally decided to align itself with the Committee of Administrator’s deadline and hold elections in the unit. With the Supreme Court-appointed body extending the last day to conduct polls from the 28th of September to the fourth of October, the MCA announced it’ll be holding the process from eight to 11 AM on the day, with the results to be announced on the day itself.
Previously, the elections had to be postponed after bureaucrat D.N. Chaudhari had declined the request to be the electoral officer since he considered the elections to be in contempt of Supreme Court’s decision of July, 2018. However, he has now come around after the CoA stated that the same didn’t hold true and will serve as the presiding officer.
“We have decided to conduct the elections on time and necessary measures have been taken,” one of the MCA officials said.
Ot was confirmed that all former cricketers falling under MCA’s ambit who have represented India in the past, both male and female, will be given membership of the association provided they didn’t already have one with some other unit. To avail the same, they are required to submit a form by the 30th of September. The date will also serve as the deadline for clubs to nominate their representatives, following which they’ll get a day’s time to file nominations for all the available posts.
The decision was taken keeping in mind that non-conformity would have denied the association to vote in the BCCI AGM scheduled for the 23rd of October. With TNCA also agreeing to hold elections, only Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh are yet to comply.
