Inzamam-ul-Haq is of the opinion that the 38-year-old MS Dhoni should have retired from international cricket at the ground against announcing his decision on social media from home. He also credited Dhoni’s ability to turn players into great players, citing Raina and Ashwin as examples.

As skipper of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni had it all possible, including three ICC titles in the limited-overs format and leading his side to No.1 ranking in the longest format. Away from his leadership, Dhoni went on to establish himself as one of the best lower-order batsmen in the history of the game, with over 16,000 international runs.

In a staggering fashion, the former Indian skipper took to Instagram to announce his retirement from all formats of international cricket. After his decision to retire, former Pakistani batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq has opined that the 39-year-old should have retired from the ground instead of announcing his decision from his home.

“Dhoni has millions of fans across the globe who want to see him play on the ground. In my opinion, a player of such stature, shouldn’t have taken retirement while sitting at home. He should have announced retirement from the ground,” said  Inzamam-ul-Haq in a video uploaded on his Youtube channel ‘The Match Winner.’

The former Pakistan cricketer also added that Dhoni as a skipper was very clever, knowing how to build talented players into great ones, citing the example of Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin. Incidentally, the Uttar Pradesh all-rounder also announced his retirement at the very same time as his CSK skipper Dhoni.

“MS Dhoni is such a clever cricketer that he knew how to build players. His level of understanding of the sport was so good that he used to pick players and then turn them into great players. Suresh Raina and R Ashwin are two best players, MS Dhoni produced,” Inzamam added.

“Dhoni is that player who knew how to finish the match. Single-handedly, he could win matches. He is not the kind who will score a century in every match, but he built his innings in such a manner that the team finishes on the winning side.”
