Loss of four wickets for just 26 runs left India C on the backfoot in a chase of 233 in Anantapur but Abhishek Porel stood firm with an unbeaten 35 to secure the four wicket victory over India D. Earlier, Manav Suthar's two wickets took his innings haul to seven in a player of the match performance.

Brief Score: IND C 168 & 233/6 [Juyal 47, Patidar 44; Saransh 4/92] defeat IND D 164 & 236 [Padikkal 56, Iyer 54; Suthar 7/49] by  four wickets

Axar Patel and Harshit Rana added 30 runs to their overnight partnership of three take India D to 236 on Day 3 before two blows for no runs by Manav Suthar in consecutive overs folded the side out for 236, setting their opponents a target of 233.

Rutraj Gakwad and Sai Sudharsan began the chase fluently, racing away to 64 in their run-a-ball partnership. However, Saransh Jain used the rough patches caused by footmarks around the crease brilliantly to deceive both openers and dispatch the duo within four overs for 46 and 22 respectively. Nevertheless, it all seemed smooth sailing for the chasing side as Rajat Patidar and Aryan Juyal added 32 runs before Lunch to take the score to 109/2, just 124 away from victory.

The duo brought up their half-century stand shortly after resumption and were on the verge of completing their individual fifties when it all quickly unrivaled for the team. Rajat rushed down the stumps against Manva Suthar and was emphatically stumped, five balls before Juyal holed out off Arshdeep Singh. It was the beginninf of a 4/26 collapse -- Suthar and Axar got rid of Baba Indrajith (7)  and Hrithik Shokeen (0) respectively to suddenly leave India C reeling at 198/6 heading into Tea.

Abhishek Porel showed maturity beyond his years upon resumption to patiently accumulate 35 runs in a 44-run partnership with Hrithik Shokeen and steer his team to a commanding victory in the tournament opener.

The role of a finisher is one of the most unforgiving jobs in all of cricket, for they are the wins remembered for wins and blamed for losses. Nurul Hasan found himself in a similar situation in Sylhet on Thursday with the odds skewed massively against him, only to end up achieving the unfathomable.

Attack as the best form of defence and breaking down the walls when they are closing in are strategies as old as time in red-ball cricket. However, few exemplify the principle the way Sarfaraz Khan did in Bengaluru on Saturday by smashing Akash Deep for five back-to-back boundaries under pressure.
