Setbacks can often demoralise an individual but it is important to mark a comeback with strong grit. Jharkhand batter Ishan Kishan rode similar waves in the last few months before making a strong statement with the bat on round 2 of Duleep Trophy’s opening day against India B at Anantapur.

Arriving on the back of a win in round one of the Duleep Trophy, India B captain Abhimanyu Easwaran elected to field first after winning the toss. The decision didn’t quite bore fruits for the Dehradun-born as their bowlers failed to get early wickets. With Ruturaj Gaikwad getting retired hurt, B Sai Sudharsan and Rajat Patidar added 92 runs together before their wickets paved the way for Ishan Kishan’s return from injury.

The southpaw came at a crucial time of the game to extend the hard work done by the top-order batters. He kept milking his way to a fifty with adequate boundaries, maintaining a strike rate of around 100. With the in-form Baba Indrajith trying to play the anchor’s role from one end, Kishan earned the license to play with freedom. While stranded at 98, he produced a picture-perfect inside-out shot on a fuller delivery outside the stumps off R Sai Kishore. With most fielders inside the 30-yard circle, the ball raced towards the ropes and Kishan was seen raising his helmet and bat with a sigh of relief.

The batter incurred plenty of setbacks in the last few months - from losing his central contract to being dropped from the team and suffering an injury during the Buchi Babu Trophy. The Twitterverse appreciated the intent of Kishan as he put forward a bold statement with this century.

What a day for him!

Brilliant comeback!

Great inns!

Take a bow, champ!

He is back with banger!

Massive day for him!

Ishan Kishan!🔥
