Drop catches are never a great sight for the fielding team, especially when it is of a set batter. Tristan Stubbs dropped a sitter at the Marrara Oval during the first T20I between Australia and South Africa, allowing Aussie batter Tim David to continue with his dangerous blitzkrieg.

South African bowlers dominated the beginning of the first T20I against Australia, who were left reeling at 88/6 at the halfway stage of the innings. However, the tables suddenly turned with Tim David at the crease, who rescued the team from a tough position. The big-hitting middle-order batter played some explosive shots, which were enough to entertain the crowd at the Marrara Oval in Darwin. It came to a stage where David’s wicket became paramount for the Proteas to avoid losing control of the game due to the lusty blows by the Aussie batter but when the opportunity did arrive, they failed to hold on to it.

The chance to dismiss him came on the third ball of the 16th over, bowled by Senuran Muthusamy. The left-arm spinner delivered a nicely flighted delivery and though David managed to get under it, he failed to get enough distance on the shot. Tristan Stubbs, known to have one of the safest hands in the outfield, was the fielder at long on and intently saw the ball dip down towards him. However, on this occasion, the young cricketer spilled a dolly, giving the set Aussie batter another opportunity. The drop cost the team significantly as David went on to hit two big sixes in the next two deliveries.

The fans were quick to vent their frustration at the now-experienced Proteas campaigner.

Disaster!

Massive 2 sixes

Dropped and smashed

Next up

Took 3 tries

Good come back

Massive ones

Straight away

Back to back

Unfrotunately not
