SL vs BAN | Twitter wide-eyed as apocalyptic weather in Colombo leads to strong gales uprooting stumps

If England were not enough to keep us guessing how the summer would look like, now Colombo has joined the race too for the most unpredictable weather of the Test season. The Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on Thursday saw clear skies dramatically give way to a thunderstorm, leading to a break in play.

‌Bangladesh failed to make the most of good batting conditions under the sun in Colombo as they lost four wickets for just 76 runs within 30 overs of play against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack. The responsibility fell upon the experienced pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das once again to rescue the team from troubled waters but just as they began to get into the flow after Lunch, the weather gods intervened and took the venue by storm, quite literally.

Asitha Fernadno was midwya through the 34th over of the game when the winds in Colombo picked up without warning. As the umpires stood ground waiting for the gale to stop, they made their force felt by uprooting both the leg and off stumps at the non-striker's end to render play impossible. The fact that it began raining by the bucketloads within moments did not aid the cause either as the player rushed off the grounds while the groundsmen battled against the win to get the covers into place. Earlier, cameras had shown a huge canopy of dark clouds slowly inching their way over the arena, resembling some sort of giant UFO that let loose once it reached its destination.

Twitterati was quick to get into the conversation.
