Fielding units often fail to capitalise on mix ups between the batters and Hobart Hurricanes got added to the list during their WBBL game against Perth Scorchers. Lizelle Lee’s substandard relay throw to the bowling end left a lot to be desired as Freay kemp fortunately extended her stay.

‌A disastrous start to their innings saw Perth Scorchers lose two wickets in the opening over against Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Saturday. However, captain Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney repaired the innings with a 66-run stand for the third wicket to help the side to 76/3 at the halfway mark.

With Sophie Devine’s departure Freya Kemp joined Mooney in the middle to take the visitors’ innings forward. The home side were sloppy on the field on multiple occasions and were guilty of awarding the batting side another reprieve in the 13th over.

With Nicola Carey trying to cramp Kemp with a short of a length delivery outside off stump, the left-handed batter rocked back to pull the ball towards deep midwicket. Kemp and Mooney were initially keen to take the double, but just as the England player reached halfway, Mooney changed her mind to dny the second run.

The fielder at the deep initially threw the ball to wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee who immediately collected it and relayed it to the bowling end. Kemp was nowhere in the picture but the ball pitched right in front of Carey who found it difficult to gather the ball and break the stumps.

Twitter was not impressed with Lee’s mediocre throw that allowed Kemp to scramble back to the crease.

Overthrows often highlight how sloppy the fielding unit is and it was on display yet again in the WBBL match between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers in Hobart. Lauren Smith hurled the ball, like a javelin, far away from wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee to gift easy runs to the Scorchers.
