India will be having a T20I series against Afghanistan in September. Although the series will be played in India, the Indian team still won't be called the hosts for the same. Afghanistan will be hosting this rare series in India for the Indian team.

The Afghanistan tour of India is about to commence in a few days, as the Indian team will be hosting Afghanistan for one test and three ODIs. This series is surely missing out on the T20Is, and it would have been amazing if both teams did face each other in the T20I format in this tour.

But due to a tight schedule, the Indian team won't be playing against Afghanistan in a T20I series now. The BCCI and Afghanistan Cricket Board have taken a bold step to have a T20I series in September. This series will be played in India, but India won't be called as the home team in the same.

Instead, it will be Afghanistan who will host the series against India at India's own home ground. The BCCI has been helping the Afghanistan cricket team for a long time, and the majority of their home games are played in Indian venues. Due to this reason, India will be playing a T20I series in India as an away team.

Our Take

It is a rare occasion that a team is having an away T20I series in its own country. But the BCCI has turned out to be very helpful for teams such as Nepal, Afghanistan, and even Bangladesh, helping them to get more experience with such bilateral series. Fans will have to wait for a few more months to watch India and Afghanistan take on each other in a T20I series. For the Test match, it is about to commence this Saturday.
