BCCI Plans Major Overhaul with Proposed Retirement Policy Changes
BCCI is planning to make some massive changes in the retirement policy. Several players are retiring themselves from international or domestic to participate in other leagues. The new policy might help the BCCI to ensure that players think well before reaching a decision.
Over the last few months, we have seen a lot of players retiring from the game. Whether Indian or overseas, the main objective of their retirement is to ensure that they get to play in the other T20 leagues. Srikar Bharat, who played for India in the WTC final 2023, recently announced his retirement with a heartfelt post.
And soon after that, it has been reported that such retirements which have come all of a sudden has been a concern for the BCCI. The same even happened with Vijay Shankar, who played for the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup. Another high-profile name in this case was Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired last year, and also registered himself in different T20 leagues. Now the BCCI is looking for a new policy for retirements, which could reduce this issue to a great extent.
In this new policy, players who retire will be having a five-year cool-off period if they want to return to the Indian domestic or take back their retirement. This move is being taken by the BCCI to ensure that the players think twice before reaching a final decision for their retirement.
Our Take
The new retirement policy by the BCCI has still not been implemented. It is expected to be complete within a few days or weeks, before being implemented with the final changes. This will also help to ensure that the decision of retirement to play in other T20 leagues is well considered by the players.
