Chennai Super Kings are having a hard time as the IPL 2026 begins. The team is missing the presence of their most experienced player, MS Dhoni, which resulted in a loss for them in the season opener. However, it has been more than 16 years since the team won a game without Dhoni in the playing XI.

The Yellow Army waited for months to see Thala back in action. But right before the tournament, he suffered a calf strain and went on for rehabilitation for two weeks. Since he will be missing out on a few games for the team, CSK came up with Samson keeping the wickets for those games.

But things didn't go well, as CSK suffered a major loss to RR in the season opener. This makes it the fifth consecutive loss for the team without Dhoni in their playing XI. The only win CSK has secured without Dhoni in the team came back in IPL 2010, which makes it almost 16 years since the last win.

It was the 11th match of IPL 2010 against Delhi Daredevils. Delhi batted first and scored 185/6 in 20 overs, with Sehwag smashing 74 off 38. CSK chased down the total with 5 wickets and 5 balls remaining. Matthew Hayden smashed 93, while Raina remained not out at 49, marking it as the team's only win without Dhoni.

Our Take

It will be a challenging time for Chennai Super Kings, as they will have to play a few more games without Dhoni. The team has its next game against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which will make it more challenging for them. Still, it would be a good occasion for them to give a statement and end the jinx.

Fans are eager to see who steps up in time when Dhoni is not in the playing XI. With the veteran suffering from a calf strain, he will be missing out a few more games for the team before he gets cleared to play.
