Chairman of AIFF's technical committee Baichung Bhutia today came out strongly against FC Goa lodging a police complaint against Elano, after the ruckus which followed the ISL final between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC. Bhutia feels that it sends out a wrong message about the league.

FC Goa lodged an FIR against Elano after the Chennaiyin midfielder allegedly assaulted their co-owner Dattaraj Salgaonkar, after the ISL final at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. The Brazilian star was taken to the police station, and Elano has been slapped with charges of wrongful restraint under Section 341 of IPC, before being released on bail, reports said.

The former Indian international believes that the incident should have been resolved on the ground. “I think it is very unfortunate as there are incidents that happen in a game or after it. What happened on the ground was bad but that it carried on off the ground was even worse. I think the federation and the ISL will take action against whatever happened on the ground. Doing an FIR is just not right. I hope it does not happen again,” Bhutia was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

Bhutia feels that FC Goa's stance to lodge the complaint against a senior member of the Brazilian national team will send out a wrong impression about the league.

“This will definitely not send a good picture for sure. Elano is a World Cupper and was a senior member of the Brazilian national team. So it doesn’t paint a good picture. There are mistakes which have been made and hopefully we don’t make that in future,” he added.
