Atletico de Kolkata striker Iain Hume is excited about playing against his former club Kerala Blasters in the final of the Indian Super League on Sunday (Dec 18), and ISL’s highest goal getter with 23 strikes has scored against every opponent except Blasters.

“I am just fortunate. After playing for Blasters in the first season now I am with ATK for the past two seasons, playing for the (two) best supported clubs in India. I am over the moon to be in the final ..,” 33-year-old Hume told reporters.

The final will be played at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, and Hume is confident of a wonderful reception at the home of his former team with whom he won the Golden Ball in 2014. Blasters lost 1-0 to Atletico that year.

“We can’t predict finals. It’s about who shows up on the day and both teams will be raring to go. We will see who comes out on top again,” he said

Atletico coach Jose Molina didn’t start with Hume in the second-leg of the semi-final clash against Mumbai City FC in a bid to keep the striker fresh for the final.

The Canadian has appeared to pick up pace in the second half in the last two seasons.

Last year, Hume scored only three goals in his first seven matches but roared back with eight strikes in the next nine outings.

This year Hume scored only two goals in his first seven matches before firing in five in the next nine games.
