ISL coaches come on a tour to India to have fun and earn money: Mohun Bagan manager
Mohun Bagan manager Sanjoy Sen has blasted Indian Super League (ISL) coaches, insisting that the likes of Roberto Carlos and David Platt come to this nation to “have fun and earn money”. Sen has also criticized the performances of the players who have returned from ISL.
In the post-match press conference, after his team's 3-1 win over Aizawl in I-League's opening game on Saturday, Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen was asked about his decision to field Souvik Chakraborty, who was played as a right-back by Roberto Carlos in ISL for Delhi Dynamos, as a midfielder. He replied, “Roberto Carlos played Souvik as a full back and that is his own decision. Just because he did so, that does not mean I have to do the same. Carlos, David Platt - all these people have come here to have fun and earn money. They have no pressure. I have nothing to learn from them. All of us learn about the Indian players much more than them. It's like they have come on a two and a half month tour to India”.
Mohun Bagan scored all there three goals in the first half, but were outplayed in the second half by the I-League debutantes Aizawl. Despite the performance, Sanjoy Sen was pleased with the result, and labled it as one of the toughest games of his managerial career so far.
“It doesn't matter whether we play good or bad as at the end of the day it's the points on the board which matter. We succeeded in getting all three points. The opponent has played far better football than us. It was heartening to see them play short quick passes and like I said before, their young players really played well. We will work on the mistakes we committed.
“This was one of the toughest matches in my coaching history. I had a couple of players injured and so it was a tough job. So I can hope that my team's performance improves,” Sen was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
Aizawl's one goal in the game was scored by Mohun Bagan defender Pritam Kotal, and Sen was displeased about the lack of commitment in challenges from the right back.
“I am not happy with the players who have returned from the ISL. Their performances have been below par. Pritam Kotal probably did not commit himself to tackling even once in the entire 90 minutes. In that respect I really liked how Balwant Singh linked up with Cornell Glen,” he opined.
