Jürgen Klopp Set to Replace Julian Nagelsmann as Germany Coach

‌Klopp's Red Bull contract reportedly includes a clause allowing him to leave without penalty for the Germany national team job.

For the Germany national team, a major coaching change appears to be just around the corner after the country's disappointing FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. Reports from several leading German media outlets suggest that current head coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to leave his position, with an official announcement likely to come early next week. According to reports, the 38 year old has been offered a severance package worth €7 million as the German Football Association looks to end his tenure through a mutual agreement. 

If no agreement is reached, the federation is prepared to dismiss him. The strongest candidate to replace Nagelsmann is former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. Multiple German publications, including Bild, Sky Germany, and Sueddeutsche Zeitung, believe Klopp is the clear favourite and that his appointment is only a matter of time. Agence France Presse has also reported that the German federation is working toward confirming the managerial change soon. 

Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager 2 years ago before accepting the role of Head of Global Football for the Red Bull group. However, it had been widely reported that his contract included a clause allowing him to leave without any penalty if the opportunity to manage Germany became available. That clause now appears likely to pave the way for his return to coaching with the national team.
