Cristiano Ronaldo seeks 10-year contract extension with Real Madrid
Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has remarked that he would offer himself a 10-year contract with the La Liga giant if he was made the president of the club. The Portuguese captain, who is making a comeback from injury, played a vital role in his side’s emphatic 5-2 win against Osasuna.
The 31-year old also expressed his desire to end his footballing career with Real Madrid in the future.
“If I were the president of Real Madrid, I would give myself a 10-year contract. Right now, I'm not thinking about anything else in my career, all I want is to retire at Real. This is the biggest club in the world and it should have the best players,” Ronaldo said, reported Reuters.
Ronaldo has been recovering from a knee injury he suffered during the Euro 2016 Championships and has since been out of the reckoning. Saturday was the first time that the striker was seen in action in over two months. However, it took just 6 minutes for Ronaldo to score on his comeback as Real consolidated their position atop the points table. He was eventually substituted in the second half.
Despite his easy start, Ronaldo admitted that nerves did get the better of him in his comeback game. “I felt good physically, I could have played for 90 minutes without any problems but in some moments I played with a little fear, but that's normal after not playing for so long.”
“I’m fit again and got back in the swing of things, and I scored a goal, so it was perfect,” he exclaimed.
The Portuguese forward’s current contract with the club is set to expire in 2018. There has been no official statement or announcement from the club following Ronaldo’s statements. However, the Spanish giants will be eager to oblige to his demands. Ronaldo has been part of the Real side since 2009 after his successful six-year stint with Manchester United. For Real Madrid, the ace striker has been the most successful footballer for the club and is also the all-time leading goal scorer.
